Brewing Better Futures: Gento Coffee’s Scholarship Program

At Gento Coffee, we believe coffee can be a powerful force for change. Beyond flavor and quality, we see coffee as a bridge—connecting consumers with the rural communities that make every cup possible.

That’s why we commit 10% of our profits directly back into the coffee-growing communities we work with. Many of these regions face challenges such as limited access to education and food security, so we partner with local organizations to implement programs that help sustain and empower future generations of farmers, artisans, and leaders.

Our primary focus though the Gento Coffee Project is on scholarships for young women, alongside food security and education initiatives for farmer families that create long-term, sustainable impact.

A Milestone Worth Celebrating: Jacqueline Fernanda Tuj Ixmatá

One of our proudest moments this year is celebrating Jacqueline Fernanda Tuj Ixmatá, who graduated last year with honors after many years of support through our scholarship program.

In her own words:
“I am grateful first to God for allowing me to reach this goal. I am deeply thankful for the support that my grandmother and I have received. Knowing that I will continue receiving this support this year fills me with happiness. It means so much to know that there are people who care about my education.”

Continuing Support: Wendy Roxana Churunel Churunel

Wendy, age 16, is from the community of Chuacruz, Sololá, and is currently studying Bachillerato en Ciencias y Letras with a focus on Medicine (First Aid) at Colegio Monte Sión.

Last year, Wendy earned an outstanding 90-point average, making her the top student in her grade. In her free time, she helps her mother create felt animal crafts and supports household responsibilities.

Her dream is to continue her university studies, become a doctor, and return to serve her community—supporting families with limited resources and inspiring young girls to pursue education.

Welcoming a New Scholar: Dulce Sofía Cumatz Julajuj

Dulce, age 12, is entering sixth grade and comes from Aldea Pixabaj, Sololá—a rural community surrounded by forests and agriculture.

Dulce is an active and dynamic student whose dream is to become a doctor and work in a hospital, helping others through healthcare.

Every Bag Has an Impact

We hope to continue expanding this program and supporting many more girls in coffee-growing communities.

To every customer who chooses Gento Coffee: thank you. Every bag you purchase helps fund education, food security, and opportunities through the Gento Coffee Project. From farm to cup—and far beyond—your coffee truly makes a difference.
