Brewing Better Futures: Gento Coffee’s Scholarship Program
At Gento Coffee, we believe specialty coffee is more than a product. It is a platform for long-term impact at origin.
As a women-founded, producer-led coffee company based in Guatemala, we commit 10% of our profits directly back into the rural coffee-growing communities we work with. Through scholarships, food security programs, and education initiatives, we are investing in the next generation of leaders—especially young women.
Because sustainability is not just environmental. It is human.
Our primary focus through the Gento Coffee Project is reinvesting 10% of profits into scholarships for young women, alongside food security and educational initiatives that create lasting, sustainable impact for farming families.
Why Education Matters in Coffee-Growing Regions
Many rural coffee-producing regions in Guatemala face:
- Limited access to secondary education
- Financial barriers to school supplies and tuition
- Food insecurity during harvest cycles
- Restricted access to higher education for girls
Without support, talented students are often forced to leave school early.
Through our scholarship program, Gento Coffee helps remove those barriers—ensuring that academic potential is not determined by geography or income.
Jacqueline Fernanda Tuj Ixmatá: A Milestone Achievement
One of our proudest moments was celebrating Jacqueline’s graduation with honors after years of support through our scholarship program.

She shared:
“I am grateful first to God for allowing me to reach this goal. I am deeply thankful for the support that my grandmother and I have received. Knowing that I will continue receiving this support fills me with happiness. It means so much to know that there are people who care about my education.”
Her success represents exactly why this program exists: sustained support creates sustained results.
Continuing Education
Wendy Roxana Churunel Churunel: Future Doctor in the Making
Wendy, age 16, is from the community of Chuacruz, Sololá, and is currently studying Bachillerato en Ciencias y Letras with a focus on Medicine (First Aid) at Colegio Monte Sión.

Last year, Wendy earned an outstanding 90-point average, making her the top student in her grade. In her free time, she helps her mother create felt animal crafts and supports household responsibilities.
Her dream is to continue her university studies, become a doctor, and return to serve her community—supporting families with limited resources and inspiring young girls to pursue education.
Dulce Sofía Cumatz Julajuj: Our Newest Scholarship Recipient
Dulce, age 12, is entering sixth grade and comes from Aldea Pixabaj, Sololá—a rural community surrounded by forests and agriculture.

Dulce is an active and dynamic student whose dream is to become a doctor and work in a hospital, helping others through healthcare.
Her journey is just beginning.
